God Will Give You the Desires of Your Heart, Not Your Flesh

Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart's desires. Psalm 37:4

What a wonderful way to lead someone to Christ. With this verse, many people have been made to believe, that by saying that they will follow the Lord, that He will in turn, give us whatever we want. That we will never want anything again, because God will gives us whatever it is that we want. Tens of thousands of people flock to churches every Sunday, that make them feel good with this message. Look at the message being spoken by these churches, and you will see why so many flock to the call of this all-giving "god." We will look into what exactly these verses are talking about.

In Psalm 37:4, when it talks about us "taking delight in the Lord," now when it says to take delight, it means that we take pleasure in God, and who he is. When this happens, we will take pleasure in what He says and what He wants. Ezekiel 36:26 says

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.

When we fully trust in God, and when we fully give our lives over to Him, we no longer heave the desires we once have, He has given us a "new" heart, one that will seek to honour Him and Him alone. With this heart, the desires you will have will be to further His kingdom, and He will give you those desires. It's plain to see that, while most desire a fancy house, bigger paycheck, nice vacation, luxury cars, and etc., not everyone will receive them. It is not God's will for all to have these things. Jesus, Himself, needed a fish to pay His taxes because they were so broke. The disciples were told in the Great Commission, that they weren't to carry anything with them to the next town, and to fully rely on those in the town they were staying at. No food, no cash, not even extra clothing. God would supply everything for them. Obviously God didn't have in mind for even Jesus' own disciples to be wealthy, so why should we believe that we all need to be as much. Now is the place for those who are able to provide for themselves as well as the disciples who come into the town, and even in these modern times there is still a place for people like that. Whether it would be those who fund missions trips, house a pastor, or just able to devote themselves fully to any function that they are called too. So in this, just because you are wealthy, and did get what you "dreamed" for, does not mean that you are outside of God's will. Know this, however, should be being storing up your wealth, for yourself, then you are not using for His work and you are accumulating this wealth outside of God's will. Jesus says...

Don't collect for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19-20

I have repeatedly heard people, who are saving up in case something fails, and will not contribute to the work of God. If you are relying on your savings to pull you through, instead of Jehovah-Jireh, God the Provider, to pull you through a failure, then your heart is in the wrong place. Jesus clearly states here, storing up your treasures in heaven, contributing to the work of God, is by far better then storing up your treasures down here.

Now how do you know what your calling is, and whether you are supposed to be like a disciple, or to provide for one, how do you know what to do. Ask God, and you will receive your answers. Constantly search how you can minister for Him. And continually move forward in what you do. Even if it is not your place to become wealthy and have many things, be diligent with what you do have. The parable of the talents Jesus told, testifies to this. The one who was given much was rewarded by being in diligent with what he had, while the one who was given little was punished and thrown out by his master for his laziness and foolishness. This can be applied to both wealth, and also your physical "talents." Use them for the glory of God, He will bless you, and should it be His will, multiply them.

Always remember, our short time on this earth, is to fulfil God's ministry. In whatever you do, do it for His glory and His will, and you will prosper in whatever you do. Now this may mean that you only own the clothes on your back and not know where your next meal will come from. But remember you're in good company, as Christ Himself didn't have a dwelling and your heavenly father made mana from heaven fall for forty years to feed a grumbling people. And if it is your calling to be wealthy, don't let pride make you stumble, as there are serious things said about the rich. And give without expecting anything in return, for your Father in heaven will see what you do, and will reward with His infinite bounty. And always keep praying for direction from God, in all that you do.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
